Before I was a wedding DJ, I was a radio music director. My job wasn’t just to spin records — it was to choose the songs, rate them for tempo and energy, decide how they’d fit into the hour, and structure a flow that kept listeners tuned in. I had to balance older favorites with newer chart-toppers, and most importantly, I had to remember: it wasn’t about me.
There were plenty of songs I didn’t personally love, but if they resonated with listeners, they made the cut. That word — resonate — is still how I think about music.
When a sound wave hits just right, it causes another object to vibrate. (Drummers know this as “sympathetic vibration.”) A well-timed song works the same way — it sets off a reaction in the room. People start tapping their feet, singing along, or jumping to the dance floor.
That’s what I aim for at weddings.
When I sit down with a couple, their song list is my foundation. It tells me who they are, what they love, and what will resonate with them and their guests. From there, I build the flow of the evening — starting with a wide, welcoming vibe, then shifting and adjusting as I watch how the crowd responds.
The one lesson I’ve carried from radio to weddings is this: always play the best songs. The ones that truly connect, that spark a reaction, that resonate with the moment. Because when the music resonates, the memories last.
If you’re planning your wedding and want a DJ who can read the room and build a soundtrack that truly resonates, I’d love to talk with you. You can call, text, or email me anytime — my info’s at the bottom of this page.
